As part of the GOLD (Growth in Organizational Leadership and Development) Program, Mr. Jay Michael Diola of the Lower Grades LRC conceptualized the idea of an Educational Toy Center, where “play & learn come together”. Also known as Project ETC, it was officially inaugurated last July 19, 2012, by our beloved president, Br. Dennis Magbanua, FSC and Br. Lazaro Rodriguez, FSC, our Brother Animator.

A portion of the non-print section was converted into the Educational Toy Center, adjacent to the Lower Grades LRC. The toy center houses a number of educational materials such as puzzles, board games, building blocks, manipulative toys and other educational material that would provide fun and learning among students. Purchase of additional materials is also underway to further improve the collection.

“Learn to read, love to read” encapsulates the Scholastic Assessement & Enrichment Program (AEP) launched by the LRC in partnership with the Reading department last July 17, 2012.

Just in time for the celebration of the 24th National Children’s Book Week 2012, the Reading department headed by Ms. Janette Torrato and the LRC, headed by Ms. Hermie Caparas unveiled simultaneously the Scholastic Assessement & Enrichment Program (AEP) of the Lower and Upper Grades libraries. Our beloved president, Br. Dennis Magbanua FSC, together with Br. Lazaro Rodriguez, FSC launched the program through a ribbon-cutting. Also present during the program were Ms. Suzette Balgos, Ms. Ruby Ramos, Ms. Vangie de Peralta and Ms. Rose Abad.

The program aims to develop more efficient and effective readers by “matching” students’ Lexile level (reading level) to the Lexile (readability) of a particular book.

In celebration of the 24th National Children’s Book Week last July 16-21, 2012, the DLSZ librarians together with students from the Lower Grades Division donned their best costumes inspired by our well-loved fairy tales.

It served as the launching event of a festive week in commemoration of the National Children’s Book Day in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal, who was known as the “Filipino Father of Children’s Stories”. This event was spearheaded by the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY), and the LRC, for its part in the promotion of the love for reading, annually holds this celebration.

Introducing BroLee!

Introducing BroLee!

BroLee is the newest addition to the LRC family and was introduced last June 15, 2012 to the DLSZ community.

Coined from the term “libro”, which means book in Filipino, BroLee represents the Lasallian Brothers of the East Asia District. You can catch him during Book Mobile turnover ceremonies, or whenever there are different LRC-sponsored school activities.

Or sometimes, you can catch him simply reading in the library.
