“Learn to read, love to read” encapsulates the Scholastic Assessement & Enrichment Program (AEP) launched by the LRC in partnership with the Reading department last July 17, 2012.

Just in time for the celebration of the 24th National Children’s Book Week 2012, the Reading department headed by Ms. Janette Torrato and the LRC, headed by Ms. Hermie Caparas unveiled simultaneously the Scholastic Assessement & Enrichment Program (AEP) of the Lower and Upper Grades libraries. Our beloved president, Br. Dennis Magbanua FSC, together with Br. Lazaro Rodriguez, FSC launched the program through a ribbon-cutting. Also present during the program were Ms. Suzette Balgos, Ms. Ruby Ramos, Ms. Vangie de Peralta and Ms. Rose Abad.

The program aims to develop more efficient and effective readers by “matching” students’ Lexile level (reading level) to the Lexile (readability) of a particular book.

In celebration of the 24th National Children’s Book Week last July 16-21, 2012, the DLSZ librarians together with students from the Lower Grades Division donned their best costumes inspired by our well-loved fairy tales.

It served as the launching event of a festive week in commemoration of the National Children’s Book Day in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal, who was known as the “Filipino Father of Children’s Stories”. This event was spearheaded by the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY), and the LRC, for its part in the promotion of the love for reading, annually holds this celebration.

Last September 6, 2011, the DLSZ-Learning Resource Team together with members from the Social Action Office and the Zonta Club of Alabang transferred 6 units of the Book Mobile library. Soldiers’ Hills Elementary School received 3 units of Book Mobiles and at the same time, Lakeview Elementary School also received 3 units of Book Mobiles.

Aside from the turnover of the Book Mobiles, students from the 2 elementary schools enjoyed storytelling sessions from the LRC and Zonta Club people. People from SAO, on the other hand, gave out gifts and toys for the kids.
