The Art Department and the High School Learning Resource Center will hold a Parol-Making Contest to celebrate National Book Week and the Christmas season.

The said contest shall be open to the Junior and Senior levels.  The participants will work on a three- dimensional Parol (Christmas Lantern) which should cover and utilize socio-historical references and folk craft through research and recycling techniques. The challenge is to give new meaning to the art of illumination and raise environmental consciousness via the Filipino Christmas Lantern tradition. The contest aims to widen students’ perspective and learn to express a message they wish to convey from what they have either read in print or experienced visually; apply what they have learned about the rudiments of sculpture and installation; and encourage exercising their creativity and artistry by making a very traditional yet significant symbol of Christmas through the value of cooperation and teamwork.  parol
